IRI & Proximal Systems Transparently Offload Mainframe Sorting

Joint Offering Reduces TCO and Improves zSeries Value with no RAS Impacts

Melbourne, FL - March 1, 2018 - Innovative Routines International (IRI, The CoSort Company) and Proximal Systems Corporation (PSC) have announced an agreement to help IBM z System Mainframe users save money by combining IRI CoSort and PSC Proxy Coupling technologies.

Specifically, PSCsort incorporates CoSort to seamlessly offload z System MSU demand (or dedicated CPU resources) for sorting from General Purpose Processors (GPP) to the lower cost Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL), or to distributed system CPUs (x86, POWER, SPARC, etc.).

According to PSC CEO Ron Hilton, “by transparently offloading z/OS jobs like sorting through our patented Proxy Coupling technology, mainframe users make no changes to their existing jobs or parms, but begin to dramatically reduce their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) without sacrificing Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS).” This cost reduction also allows users to “extend the value of the z System mainframe because budget and MIPS/cycles are suddenly freed up for other uses,” he added.

IRI has been offloading mainframe sort jobs to CoSort software on “open systems” -- including zLinux -- for 40 years. According to IRI SVP David Friedland, the partnership with PSC will provide a “fascinating and valuable variation of the mainframe rightsizing theme.” He also said that the joint offering adds further value to CoSort in the “lift and shift” market, and helps introduce the benefit of Proxy Coupling Technology to mainframe users who are unhappy with the cost of functionally equivalent z/OS software.

Beyond its role in mainframe sorting and reporting, the high-performance ‘SortCL’ data transformation program in the IRI CoSort package has also given rise to several data management spin-offs, all of which PSC users can also leverage by virtue of this integration. These include IRI FieldShield for data masking, IRI NextForm for data and database conversion, IRI RowGen for test data generation, and the IRI Voracity platform for big data discovery, integration (ETL), migration, governance, and analytics.

About Proximal Systems Corporation

PSC is a US data processing ISV founded in 2009 that brings decades of IBM zSeries platform expertise to the business of transparently offloading mainframe jobs to lower-cost systems. PSC was named for bringing disparate computing systems into close functional proximity to provide seamless interoperability. The result is a unified computing complex where tasks migrate, but work as if hosted on the same system. Visit www.proximalsystems.com for more information.
